Harpies are spirits of wind in the form of winged humanoids. They're capable of flight, are immune to fire and lava, can lift people up and carry them away, and can cause powerful gusts. They were originally sent by Zeus to snatch away any and all food put before King Phinea of Trace before being chased away by the Argonauts.
At Camp Half-Blood, several harpies work as cleaners. Which in this case means both washing dishes with lava and eating any demigod who sneaks out of their cabin at night.
There are three types of harpy names in Percy Jackson. The first are regular, modern names in the form of Ella. Ella's a play on Aella, which is both Latin for harpy and Greek for stormy wind or whirlwind. The modern names below follow similar patterns, and you might be able to spot their link in the Greek names likewise part of this name generator.
Of the four named harpies in the myths, Aello, Celeano, and Ocypete are all present in the Percy Jackson books. Podarge isn't. Since their names are also Greek words (Aello means storm swift, Ocypete means swift wing, Celeano means the dark, and Podarge means fleet foot), I collected a bunch more such names as you'll see below.
