While the majority do indeed resemble dragons, the term is also used to classify other ancient and powerful creatures who tend to make classification difficult due to their exceptional traits. Examples of non-dragon Elder Dragons are the Kirin (a unicorn-like being with the head of a lion), the Caedeus (a mix between a whale and sea-slug, with a more draconic or beastly head), and the Oltura (a mix between a serpentine dragon and a butterfly or moth).
Elder Dragon names range from shorter to incredibly long. Names tend to be more toward the melodic side, but can contain a mixture of harsher and guttural tones as well.
