Kannada is a language spoken by primarily the Kannadigas people in Karnataka, a state in southwestern India. But it is also spoken by relatively large populations in neighboring states. In total, there are about 44 million people who consider Kannada their native tongue, and an additional 15 million people who speak it as an additional language aside from their native tongue.
Kannada is part of the Dravidian language family, which also includes Telugu, Tamila and Malayalam among others. It has influences from and has been an influences on other languages within India and nearby regions, including Sanskrit and Malayalam.
Karnataka, renamed from Mysore state in 1973, covers nearly 6% of India's total landmass and is home to over 62 million people, making it the eighth-largest state by population. Its history dates back to the stone age and has seen the rise and fall of some of the most powerful empires within its lands, though summarizing this would require more than just this small name generator description.
